Ph.D. Theoretical Linguistics: Our Ph.D. program creates and promulgates knowledge about human language: how it may be analyzed systematically, how it is naturally acquired, and how it is accessed under controlled conditions. The program has a strong theoretical and experimental foundation with regard to all subcomponents of language.
M.A. in Linguistics, Native American Linguistics & Languages option (NAMA): NAMA is committed to the revitalization of indigenous languages, both living languages and those that are no longer spoken. The caliber of the UA Linguistics Department and its connections to American Indian communities in Arizona and throughout the Southwest make NAMA exceptional.
M.S. in Human Language Technology (HLT): HLT is an emerging interdisciplinary field at the intersection of formal linguistics, computational methods, and artificial intelligence. Students are required to undertake a jointly-supervised (industry) internship. Recent job placements have included Apple, Rosetta Stone, and the Air Force Research Laboratory.
Accelerated M.S. in Human Language Technology (HLTAMP): The Accelerated HLT program is completed in conjunction with undergraduate studies. HLT is an emerging interdisciplinary field at the intersection of formal linguistics, computational methods, and artificial intelligence. Students are required to undertake a jointly-supervised (industry) internship. Recent job placements have included Apple, Rosetta Stone, and the Air Force Research Laboratory.
Joint Ph.D. in Anthropology-Linguistics (ANLI): Students earn simultaneous doctorates in both disciplines drawing on the strengths of both top-ranked departments and developing a unique depth of interdisciplinarity. Only one similar program exists anywhere, at the University of Chicago. Our program has a 100% placement rate, demonstrating the demand for its specific type of graduates
