William M. Cotter publishes in the Journal of Arabic and Islamic Studies

William Cotter, Joint PhD student in Anthropology and Linguistics, recently published an article in the Journal of Arabic and Islamic Studies (Vo. 16, p. 149-162), entitled “One Piece of the Puzzle: Notes on the Historic InterdentalFricatives /θ, ð, ðˁ/ in the Arabic Dialect of Gaza City”. The article focuses on the current status of the historic Arabic interdental fricatives in the Arabic dialect of Gaza City. This particular variety of Arabic is drastically understudied, and Cotter’s article looks at a specific set of sounds in Arabic that show considerable variation across spoken Arabic dialects.
