NLP Certificate FAQ

I don’t have a background in CS/programming. Is this a problem?

You don’t need to have ever taken any courses in computer science or computational linguistics. We do expect our students to have some familiarity with programming, though you certainly don't need a degree in computer science or related field. For students without programming experience, we suggest working though a free course such as Udacity's Intro to Python or a textbook such as Python for Linguists.

What courses can I take?

Please see the NLP Certificate page for a description of core courses and recommended electives. Students may propose an alternative elective to the program director.

How do I start the application process?

Visit the Graduate College Admissions page for more information.

I'm an undergrad. Am I eligible?

Unfortunately, the current version of the NLP Certificate program is limited to grad students.

Can I chat with someone about the program?

Eric Jackson directs the Graduate Certificate in Natural Language Processing. He is available to chat about the program via Zoom or email at ejackson1@arizona.edu
