Generative AI and Poverty of Stimulus

Prof. Sandiway Fong has given two talks at Osaka Kyoiku University this May. One talk was on the Poverty of Stimulus, where he spoke on corpus and language acquisition using the tools of HLT. The other talk, titled Generative AI: the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly, entailed a conversation regarding the linguistic aspects of AI work. He answered questions from students curious about the use of AI and its future. A three page commentary on this topic, jointly written by Tom Bever, Noam Chomsky, Massimo Piattelli-Palmarini, and Sandiway Fong, has been accepted for the Brain and Behanvioral Sciences Journal. It's currently in press, and its release date remains to be known.
