About D. Terence Langendoen

I retired in 2005 after 41 years in faculty positions in linguistics, the last 17 of which were at the University of Arizona. I started a new career in 2006 as Program Director in Linguistics at the National Science Foundation, and in 2008 took a renewable part-time position in the Robust Intelligence Program at NSF with responsibility for natural language processing, including applications for documenting endangered languages, and computational cognition. I retired again in 2021. I have worked in a variety of areas in linguistics over the years, including phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, psycholinguistics, and the history of linguistics. Recently I have been studying the combinatory problems resulting from the interaction of coordination and subordination, which has led me to revisit my work some 40 years ago on the vastness of natural languages.

Formal foundations of morphology, syntax and semantics
