Shahriar Hormozi

Graduate Teaching & Research Assistant

I am Shahriar, a fourth-year PhD student in Linguistics at the University of Arizona.

I hold a Master’s degree in Theoretical Linguistics from the University of Tehran and had the opportunity to spend a semester at Ca' Foscari University of Venice as part of the Erasmus+ exchange program. My research focuses on the interfaces between semantics and syntax, particularly in Iranian languages and sign languages. I am particularly interested in how syntactic structures interact with meaning and how different languages uniquely manifest these interactions.

As a member of the Iranian linguistics research team, I am the chair of SSOIL (The Summer School of Iranian Languages), a unique program providing students with direct access to state-of-the-art advances in Iranian linguistics. I am also part of the organizing team for LILA Talks (Lectures on Iranian Linguistics in Arizona), a lecture series that fosters discussions on cutting-edge linguistic theory developments and practical applications.

Outside of my academic pursuits, I am an avid cinephile with an insatiable appetite for all things film.
