William Cotter, Joint PhD student in Anthropology and Linguistics, recently published an article in the Arizona Anthropologist (Vol. 26, p. 23-35) entitled “On depression, anxiety, and looking for the silver lining in short term fieldwork”. Drawing from his recent pilot fieldwork trip in northern Jordan, his notes-from-the-field contribution focuses on the emotional challenges of short-term fieldwork. The article also discusses broader issues surrounding research focusing on marginalized communities and the positionally of white, American researchers within these communities.
