Abstract: Why do ancient sources tell us so much about the infatuation with smell in the ancient Iranian World, and why things and places are remembered through smell in Persian literature and poetry? This presentations discusses the importance and relevance of the history of smell for understanding history, as reflected in the Persian and Iranian sources, from the Avesta to Persian poetics.
