History of North American Indian/Indigenous Sign Language
The presentation will provide insight into the ancestral linguistic landscape of the Indigenous Deaf; from where tribal signs have been identified on various canyon walls to recorded historical depictions of our ancestral inhabitants' era. These Indigenous people have intergenerationally transmitted signs to the present day. Also discussed will be the newly developed North American Indian/Indigenous Sign Language Family Tree Chart, where existing sign languages have been documented and mapped out the way many spoken language family trees are. Alongside this information, linguistic documentation using SooSL and ASL Notations will be provided.
