The UA-Lombok Linguistics connections

Husni Mu'adz earned a UA PhD in 1991 then returned to the faculty of Universitas Mataram, in Lombok, Indonesia, where he still lives and works. In 1992, Diana Archangeli used her first sabbatical to spend a semester in Lombok. Fast forward 23 years, and Diana was back in Lombok in June 2015 and again in August 2016, again hosted by Husni at Mataram Lingua Franca Institute (photo) -- and including undergraduates from the University of Hong Kong, on their capstone fieldwork trips. For this capstone, the students design, carry out, and write up a research project involving data collected in the field -- in this case, working with Sasak, Balinese, Samawa, Bima, and/or Bugis.
