William M. Cotter publishes in Perspectives on Arabic Linguistics

William Cotter, third year PhD student in Anthropology and Linguistics, published an article in a recent volume in the Studies in Arabic Linguistics [SAL] series (John Benjamins), Perspectives on Arabic Linguistics XXVIII. Papers from the Annual Symposium on Arabic Linguistics, Gainesville, Florida, 2014. His article, entitled “(q) as a sociolinguistic variable in the Arabic of Gaza City”, focuses on the variable pronunciation of the voiceless uvular stop /q/ in the Arabic varieties of the Gaza Strip, tracing the outcomes of dialect contact happening in the Gaza Strip between indigenous residents and Palestinian refugees living in Gaza since 1948.
